Beijing, China – China has expressed strong concerns over Japan’s recent plans to implement export controls on semiconductors, warning that such measures could destabilize global industrial and supply chains and disrupt standard business operations.

A spokesperson from China’s Ministry of Commerce highlighted that certain nations have been broadening the definition of national security and misusing export control measures to sanction and suppress China’s semiconductor and related industries. The spokesperson emphasized that Japan’s proposed export restrictions would not only affect Chinese companies but also harm Japanese enterprises.

China is urging Japan to heed the rational perspectives of industry stakeholders and reconsider its approach. The Ministry of Commerce spokesperson stated, “We hope Japan will take into account the broader picture of international trade rules and China-Japan economic cooperation and promptly correct these measures to avoid hindering the healthy development of bilateral economic relations.”

In response to Japan’s announced technological and trade restrictions, including sanctions on certain Chinese firms, China has asserted its right to implement countermeasures to protect its legitimate rights and interests. The nation also reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring the smooth functioning of global industrial and supply chains.

Jin Xu, chairman of the China Association of International Trade, criticized efforts by some countries to “decouple and sever industrial and supply chains” and to establish “small yards with high fences,” noting that such actions ultimately harm local businesses and do not benefit the populace.

Jin expressed confidence in China’s ability to overcome technological barriers, citing the country’s robust technological capabilities, solid industrial foundation, and strong government support. He stated, “I firmly believe China will make breakthroughs in the fields of chips. I am convinced that the suppression by some countries will not last.”

As the global semiconductor industry faces increasing geopolitical tensions, China’s call for reconsideration of Japan’s export controls underscores the complex interplay between national security concerns and the imperative of maintaining stable international supply chains.
