Ajit Kumar Shasany is new Vice-Chancellor of Central University of Odisha in Koraput. Announcement came try of Education, July 2 . Dr. Shasany,director of National Botanical Research Institute (NBRI) under CSIR,will hold post for five years or until 70,whichever first.
Dr. Shasany expressed gratitude for appointment,saying,"It is great honour to be appointed as Vice-Chancellor of Central University in tribal heartland of Odisha." He noted challenges ahead but stressed commitment to advancing university's mission,enhancing reputation .
He brings vast experience to role,having made major contributions to botanical research at various CSIR institutions. Notably developed new lotus variety,‘NBRI Namoh 108’,known for unique 108 petals. His efforts go beyond research; actively promoted floriculture in India,especially in Odisha,to boost farmers' incomes through flower cultivation.
Dr. Shasany also played key role in reviving endangered flower species with cultural significance,especially those used in rituals at historic Shree Jagannath Temple in Puri . His diverse expertise positions him to lead Central University of Odisha into new era...but challenges remain .
