Senior Congress leader Anand Sharma met with Paul Mashatile, South Africa's Deputy President, Monday evening. They talked about the Global South and BRICS' role in facing today’s challenges. Mashatile,a key figure in the African National Congress, highlighted the long-standing ties between India and South Africa,linking the legacies of Mahatma Gandhi and Nelson Mandela.
Collaboration among BRICS nations is crucial. Since starting with five members—Brazil,Russia, India, China, and South Africa—BRICS has grown to include Egypt,Ethiopia, Iran,and the UAE. Indonesia will join in 2025. This expanded group now represents about 49.5% of global population, roughly 40% of the world’s GDP,and close to 26% of global trade .
Mashatile's visit includes talks with Indian leaders . He'll meet with External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar and Vice President C.P. Radhakrishnan. He'll also head to Hyderabad to sit down with Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu and connect with local business leaders and academics. The goal? Strengthening bilateral ties and finding ways to cooperate .
