Apple will reveal big changes to Siri at its annual developer conference in Cupertino. This overhaul aims to boost Siri’s abilities, trying to catch up with AI competitors.
Since 2011,Siri has been on Apple’s 2.5 billion devices. But users are flocking to AI apps from OpenAI and Anthropic for smarter features . Especially in China, where AI agents handle daily tasks.
Even so,analysts think Apple has a wealth of personal data on its devices like emails and messages. This could make Siri much better at understanding users. But,Apple faces a tough spot; its privacy stance limits data access. Third-party apps can't share data, and Apple needs user consent for most of it.
“They have to make Siri not suck, but Apple also has to put the framework together of how their developers can take advantage of AI themselves,”said Patrick Moorhead, founder of Moor Insights & Strategy. He stressed data's role in boosting AI.
Challenges aside,Apple's stock has done well,up ~50% last year. Alphabet surged 120% with its Gemini AI. Microsoft? Down 7%,lagging behind rivals like Anthropic .
At conference, analysts expect Apple to roll out a “chat” mode for Siri and a “personal context” feature for data sharing . Andrew Cornwall, senior analyst at Forrester, expects Apple to let developers integrate apps with Siri ” Developers could choose AI models from OpenAI,Anthropic,Google.
Apple might also show off new ways to use AI processing on its custom chips . Analysts say Apple will pitch AI as more than tech — as user-friendly features.
In U.S.,public opinion on AI is mixed, with many uneasy. In China, users are more positive. Apple historically avoids tech for tech's sake, focusing on practical use.
Companies like Nvidia and Microsoft explore advanced AI like OpenClaw for business. Ben Bajarin,CEO of Creative Strategies, thinks Apple will be cautious. “It’s way too early for the consumer,” he said, doubting business readiness for such tech.
As Apple gears up for its conference, all eyes are on whether Siri's upgrades will shift the AI game for Apple…
