Badminton Association of India has gone to court over fake news about a supposed badminton tournament in London with Indian judges,Union ministers. They filed petition with Delhi High Court on Friday,seeking urgent hearing to tackle these damaging online claims.
Allegations say about 75 judges,several ministers joined a government-backed event in London, taxpayer-funded . Association's lawyer stressed ongoing false claims tarnish both judiciary,sport's reputation.
Solicitor General Tushar Mehta,for government,voiced concern about misinformation's persistence despite government's PIB Fact Check debunking it. He pressed court for swift action, stating, "Fake news is circulating. A fact check was done, but it is still circulating . It gives the court a bad name."
Justice Tejas Karia agreed to list case for urgent review, if procedural issues fixed by 2:30 PM. Badminton Association wants court to order removal of these "malicious posts" from social media,news sites to limit damage.
