Bharathiraja, known as Iyakkunar Imayam (Pinnacle among Directors),changed Tamil cinema by ditching studio settings for real rural landscapes. His iconic line,“Yen Iniya Tamil Makkale,” in his unique voice, became a signature.
His accolades? Six National Film Awards, four Filmfare Awards (South), six Tamil Nadu State Film Awards, and Nandi Award. He introduced many actors to Tamil film industry,often giving them names beginning with “R.” Talents like Radikaa, Revathi,and Radha emerged from this practice .
