T.T.V. Dhinakaran, general secretary of the Amma Makkal Munnetra Kazhagam (AMMK), has sharply criticized the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK)-led government for its failure to establish Singa Penn special police wing aimed at combating violence against women. In a social media post on Friday,Dhinakaran questioned how Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay, who had approved creation of this police unit among three proposals during his inauguration, could claim to prioritize women's safety.
Dhinakaran pointed to a troubling trend of violence against women, asking whether the situation would only improve with the appointment of full-fledged Director-General of Police . He expressed skepticism about the government's commitment, suggesting that the current administration engages in "horse-trading" rather than addressing pressing issues. His remarks reflect growing frustration among constituents regarding government's inaction on critical safety measures.
The absence of the Singa Penn wing, which was intended to enhance security for women, raises questions about government's priorities. Dhinakaran's comments underscore a broader concern about the effectiveness of TVK-led administration in tackling crime against women in the state .
