Directorate of Cashew Research (ICAR-DCR) in Puttur,Dakshina Kannada,just snagged ‘Innovation and Technology Advancement Award’ from Bangalore Chamber of Industry and Commerce (BCIC). This award, presented at inaugural Agro-Food Processing Awards 2026 in Bengaluru, nods to the institute's big contributions in advancing tech in India's cashew sector.
The award spotlights DCR's efforts in creating high-yielding cashew types and developing mechanization tech for production and processing. These innovations boost productivity and create new job opportunities for farmers,entrepreneurs,while cutting post-harvest losses, said Directorate.
At ceremony,J. Dinakara Adiga,Director of DCR,stressed this recognition reflects hard work of institute’s scientists,staff,industry partners . He said the award marks a key milestone in DCR’s four-decade mission to strengthen India’s cashew value chain with innovative solutions.
Over years,DCR's rolled out several climate-resilient cashew types that have seriously upped productivity in major cashew-growing regions. Institute's also developed tech for high-density planting,integrated nutrient management,pest control,all aiming to cut labor costs,boost production efficiency.
In post-harvest processing,DCR has pushed boundaries. Institute's found ways to turn cashew apples into nutritious products like herbal teas,liquid sweeteners,cookies made from cashew nut sprouts,pomace powder. Recently,unveiled 3-in-1 machine to separate cashew nuts,juice,fiber,streamlining commercial processing.
Jumping into modern tech,DCR's launched several digital platforms for farmers. Tools like Cashew Connect AI chatbot,Cashew India App give real-time scientific advice,pest management tips. Aim is to bridge gap between research,practical farming,making tech accessible nationwide.
Plus,DCR's ramping up tech commercialization,entrepreneurship development . By teaming with startups,farmer-producer orgs,self-help groups,it's pushing research innovations into practice. Regular training,incubation support part of strategy to boost sustainable practices,enhance India’s cashew processing ecosystem.
