U.S . Secretary of State Marco Rubio revealed President Donald Trump plans to visit India early next year . A move to boost ties. In a White House interview,Rubio sounded hopeful about trade talks, saying both sides are close to a deal.
Rubio said, “We’re hoping. That’s what we’re working towards, sometime early next year to have the President come.” He also plans to visit India himself before year-end to prep for Trump’s trip. This follows recent meeting between Trump and Indian PM Narendra Modi at the G7 Summit,which Rubio called productive .
“I think it’s going fantastic. I mean, it’s very strong,” Rubio said of U.S.-India relations. He stressed leaders’ tight partnership,key for diplomacy. He also pointed to the Quad alliance with Japan and Australia,saying Washington looks forward to another Quad meeting soon.
Trade talks between U.S. and India have dragged on,both sides eager to seal a deal. Rubio said they’re in the final stages,“We’re on the last inches of getting it done, and it’s very positive.” They had signed a framework for an interim trade deal in February 2026 . Indian Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal is optimistic a full agreement is possible by April or early May 2026.
Trump last visited India in February 2020,attending the “Namaste Trump” rally in Ahmedabad and holding talks in New Delhi. Since then,both governments have kept in touch,focusing on trade,defense,tech,and regional security in Indo-Pacific.
With U.S . and India strengthening ties, anticipated presidential visit could cement this bond further. Rubio calls it one of America's closest alliances. But how deep can this collaboration go…?
