Key Takeaways

  • Formula E signs multiyear broadcasting deal with Disney+ and ESPN+
  • New coverage aims to attract a wider audience and deepen engagement
  • GEN4 car introduces advanced technology for enhanced racing experience
  • Series shifts to traditional road courses for more competitive races

Formula E is set to boost its global reach with a big new broadcasting deal. Starting this December, electric racing series lands on Disney+ and ESPN+ across 144 countries . This timing aligns with the launch of the GEN4 car and the start of the 2026-2027 season .

The switch marks a big change in how Formula E reaches viewers, moving away from Roku in the U.S. Fans will get live coverage of every ePrix, from practice to qualifying to the main events. It's all about pulling in a bigger crowd and keeping current fans hooked.

“This is a landmark moment for Formula E and reflects the incredible momentum behind our Championship,” said Jeff Dodds, CEO of Formula E. He emphasized that Disney's extensive global reach and storytelling capabilities would introduce sport to millions, enhancing drama and excitement of electric racing.

The upcoming season could really shake things up for Formula E,especially with the GEN4 car debut. This beast sports twin-motor, all-wheel-drive setup, churning out 603 hp (450 kW) and surging to 804 hp (600 kW) in Attack Mode . Power that's on par with a 2027-spec Formula 1 car, which maxes out at 602 hp when its battery's low.

But power isn't everything. Formula 1 cars are generally faster, thanks to lighter weight, better aerodynamics, and slick tires. GEN4 cars will use treaded tires and weigh 18% more, with less downforce. Still, their dual motors offer killer acceleration off line, making them fierce competitors.

As they roll into the GEN4 era, Formula E plans to alter race venues too . Moving away from tight city circuits, they'll hit traditional tracks like Brands Hatch in the UK and Circuit of Americas in Austin,Texas. Expect more competitive and thrilling races.

With a new broadcast platform and cutting-edge racing tech, Formula E aims to cement its status in motorsport. This season not only marks a tech leap with the GEN4 car but also a strategic bid to broaden its reach and appeal.

Fans and stakeholders are buzzing as Formula E gears up for this new chapter. The Disney+ and ESPN+ deal is seen as a key move to grow its global footprint, drawing in new fans and sponsors.
