Tensions at the Association of Malayalam Movie Artistes (AMMA) have hit new heights as four top actresses demand financial records from a rival faction . Maala Parvathi, Ansiba Hassan, Usha Haseena, and Ponnamma Babu asked the Registrar of Co-operative Societies to step in, worried about how AMMA's funds are being handled.
In a letter dated July 26,2026,they cited Section 19 of a 1955 law to back their plea . They want quick action to safeguard AMMA and its members. They also asked bank to freeze transactions until a proper governing body gains control over AMMA's finances.
Back on June 21, 2026,during a general body meeting, AMMA's then-president Shwetha Menon quit, along with the entire leadership team. This was announced to members and the press, aimed at paving the way for new elections. Actor Jagadeesh was put in charge of forming new leadership, which got unanimous support .
Then things got messy. Menon later said she hadn't actually resigned and continued acting as president. The actresses' letter pointed out this flip-flop,arguing it contradicted AMMA's rules and her public resignation .
There's also trouble with meeting minutes. actresses claim the documents given to the Registrar and courts don't match what really happened. They want an independent investigation, warning that submitting fake documents could lead to legal trouble for some.
AMMA has over ₹6 crore in its bank accounts. The actresses are worried about signed cheques still held by former officials, fearing bank might wrongly process transactions from people no longer in charge . This could lead to big financial losses.
Even though the old leadership resigned, the actresses say former officials haven't handed over key documents, office keys, and financial records. This delay is disrupting AMMA's daily operations, affecting members who need welfare services like medical help.
Menon's panel has brushed off claims of administrative chaos, saying AMMA's operations are fine. But the leadership and financial disputes continue to hang over the group.
