Chief Commissioner of Greater Bengaluru Authority,M. Maheshwar Rao, has ordered a full fire safety audit of K.R. Market after a visit raised alarms over fire risks. On Tuesday,Rao stressed need for civic officials to assess fire hazards,emergency readiness,and evacuation plans.

Rao's orders included making sure market has enough emergency exits and installing firefighting gear for quick response in fires. He also told officials to clear encroachments blocking shop fronts,warning of double penalties for violators.

Besides fire safety,Chief Commissioner looked at public facilities, directing officials to keep toilets clean and tear down any crumbling structures in market. Regular cleaning schedules now required to boost hygiene .

With monsoon on way, Rao pushed officials to repair leaks in market's glass roof and upgrade drainage to stop waterlogging. He called for weekly checks of flood-prone spots.
