Golden Gate Highlands National Park just got a lot more thrilling. Thanks to a new ziplining experience, visitors can now glide across seven cables, taking in stunning views of Maluti Mountains. Launched by South African National Parks (SANParks),it's a fresh twist on adventure tourism here .

Imagine soaring through the sky, exhilarated by the ride yet perfectly safe with professional harnesses and trained guides. This new attraction is set to draw more tourists, giving a boost to the local economy, especially in nearby Clarens.

Director of Golden Gate Zipline says this project has created 20 jobs for locals. "We want to promote local employment, training, and skills," Lutchman said. Guides undergo specific training, including certifications and first aid, with more staff being trained to meet demand.

It took two years to plan and develop the zipline, with keen eye on environmental sustainability . Lutchman emphasized the importance of minimizing impact on the park's natural and cultural heritage. "We wanted a sustainable product in harmony with its environment," she explained.

Efforts ensure cables blend into the landscape, avoiding disruption to vegetation and protected species. Platforms use sustainable materials like wood to prevent corrosion. Regular safety checks keep standards high, with daily cable inspections and weekly gear assessments.

“Safety is the number one priority,” Lutchman emphasized .

Visitors are already feeling the rush. Lukholo Mazibuko,22,called her ziplining experience nerve-racking yet exhilarating. "Getting to the top, being strapped in—it's nerve-wracking. But once I was pushed down,it was amazing," she shared.

Kaula Nyilenda-Mphaphuli from SANParks says the zipline positions Golden Gate Highlands as a top adventure spot . "We're known for cultural heritage, but we offer much more," she stated. With Kgodumodumo Dinosaur Centre and hiking trails, the park attracts diverse tourists.

Nyilenda-Mphaphuli urged local and international tourists to explore South Africa's lesser-known parks. "There's more to South Africa, and that's its beauty," she said. The zipline partnership aims to create economic opportunities and jobs in the area.

Tebello Mothapo from Quad Ventures says ziplining offers something unique for thrill-seekers,especially the youth. "Tour operators often offer the same things, but ziplining is authentic and exciting for young people," he noted. An adrenaline junkie himself,Mothapo loved the experience. "I felt the rush, the energy, the wind. It was blast," he said .
