Hong Kong property magnate Gordon Wu Ying-sheung is betting big on China's future, crediting stability for its success. At fireside chat after receiving Game Changer Award from Asia Society,Wu praised Chinese people's work ethic as key to economic growth.
90-year-old founder of Hopewell Holdings has supported China since 1978 reforms . “I am very optimistic about future of China. Why? Because these are the people who really work hard,” he said. Wu emphasized peace's role in growth, adding,“When you want economy to thrive, most important is avoiding war.”
Wu noted Hong Kong's unique position, pointing to its legal system and distance from mainland influence. “Hong Kong is very fortunate because we are under their protection and we have our own legal system, common law system. We have best of two worlds,” he noted. His words reflect what some business leaders feel — China's stability offers promise, while U.S. faces its own hurdles.
With an old saying about turning weapons into valuables,Wu expressed belief China's stability will fuel its global rise…
