Hanuman Ansh, a devotional biopic inspired by the spiritual leader Neem Karoli Baba, has surpassed ₹400 crore in global box office earnings. On its 52nd day in theaters, the film's India net total reached ₹307.03 crore. The film's worldwide gross now stands at ₹401.20 crore, with ₹362.70 crore from India and ₹38.50 crore from overseas markets.
Despite the release of new films such as Nani's The Paradise and The Vvaan - Force of the Forest, Hanuman Ansh has maintained its strong performance. The Paradise, which debuted on September 24, achieved a notable ₹15.70 crore net on its fourth day, contributing to a global gross of ₹138.25 crore. Meanwhile, The Vvaan - Force of the Forest, featuring Sidharth Malhotra and Tamannaah Bhatia, garnered ₹14 crore net by its third day, with a worldwide total of ₹43.15 crore.
Hanuman Ansh's enduring appeal is remarkable given its modest production budget of just ₹2 crore. Directed by Vishal Chaturvedi, the film follows the journey of Lakshminarayana, portrayed by Shobhinaw Satya, as he embarks on a spiritual quest following his mother's death. The cast also includes Vihaan Shedge, Chandan K Anand, Purnima Tiwari, Anil Rastogi, Gulshan Pandey, and Bhagvandas Patel.
Initially released on 250 screens on August 7, the film's success has seen it expand to 2,000 screens. Its early weeks were marked by low box office numbers, but positive word-of-mouth significantly boosted its fortunes. The film's success underscores a growing appetite for spiritual narratives in Indian cinema, challenging the traditional dominance of big-budget Bollywood productions.
New Releases and Competition
The recent box office competition from The Paradise and The Vvaan - Force of the Forest has not deterred Hanuman Ansh's momentum. The Paradise, starring Nani, opened strongly and continues to perform well, while The Vvaan's weekend earnings indicate a positive trajectory. Despite these new entries, Hanuman Ansh's ability to draw audiences highlights its unique appeal.
Baba Neem Karoli, the inspiration behind Hanuman Ansh, was a revered spiritual figure born around 1900 in Uttar Pradesh's Firozabad district. He became a wandering hermit and gained a following that includes celebrities like Julia Roberts, Virat Kohli, and Anushka Sharma. Tech icons Steve Jobs and Mark Zuckerberg are also reported to have visited his ashram in Kainchi Dham.
As Hanuman Ansh continues its theatrical run, its success story serves as a testament to the power of storytelling that resonates with spiritual themes, capturing the imagination of audiences both in India and abroad.
