Former Hong Kong leader Leung Chun-ying says city could follow a financing model like American aerospace giant SpaceX. On a radio show,Leung stressed Hong Kong’s market-driven economy can drive rapid growth in the aerospace sector.
Leung spoke after SpaceX's IPO,which raised a staggering US$85.7 billion,pushing CEO Elon Musk to world's first trillionaire status. “Elon Musk tapped into US market-oriented economy and capitalist power to quickly pool capital,talent,and technology,” Leung remarked.
He said Hong Kong is only city in China with right market forces to mimic Musk's model. Leung urged development of professional services to back growing aerospace and shipping sectors,including legal, insurance,and financing .
As Hong Kong drafts its first five-year plan,Leung called for tough choices to make city capitalize on its advantages. His comments hint at bigger vision for Hong Kong as innovation hub in crucial global sectors . But can it deliver on those ambitions…
