India's Interior Minister, Amit Shah, issued an instruction on Wednesday for the removal of structures deemed unlawful along the nation's shared boundary with Pakistan. This directive also encompasses an intensified campaign against various illegal operations crossing the frontier.
The announcement from Minister Shah came during a visit to Rajasthan, a state in western India that shares a contiguous border with Pakistan. The order specifically targets edifices located within a 15-kilometer (approximately nine-mile) radius of the international demarcation line.
Shah is widely known for his uncompromising approach to national security. His policy focus spans issues such as managing irregular migration and confronting unlawful transnational activities. These actions highlight the enduring and often contentious relationship between the two nuclear-armed nations in South Asia.
Last year, a fatal incident in Indian-administered Kashmir notably exacerbated existing tensions between New Delhi and Islamabad. The event resulted in the deaths of 26 individuals.
