Prime Minister Narendra Modi took the stage at the Bloomberg New Economy Forum in New Delhi on Tuesday, where he spotlighted India's strong economic performance and the strategic reforms driving it. He spoke of India's dedication to global cooperation, insisting that the country's growth is a boon for the world.
India's economy grew by 7.8% in the April-June quarter, something Modi described as proof of its resilience. He pointed to foreign-exchange reserves that have climbed past $700 billion and a current account deficit sitting at just 0.61% as signs of economic stability. These positive indicators, he said, have led to upgrades in India's sovereign ratings, showing a new level of confidence in the nation's economic path.
Modi made it clear that India's reforms are motivated by strong beliefs, not just by necessity. Among the key initiatives he mentioned were the simplification of the tax system through the Goods and Services Tax (GST), the implementation of insolvency laws, the consolidation of labor codes, and the removal of penalties for minor business infractions. He dubbed these efforts as part of India's 'Reforms Express, ' which is gaining speed.
The Prime Minister laid out a vision of power that transcends mere control and rivalry. He highlighted the 'Power to Empower' concept, aimed at fostering collaboration and shared success. This philosophy was on display during the COVID-19 pandemic, when India distributed vaccines worldwide. Modi also cited recent AI Summit talks on using artificial intelligence for animal welfare as another example of India's commitment to employing technology for global advantage.
Modi called for enhanced international cooperation and dialogue, suggesting that deeper understanding and collaboration are essential for tackling global issues. He remarked, "Through dialogue, our understanding deepens. And by understanding one another, we can jointly solve great challenges." This, he explained, is the core of India's empowerment strategy—utilizing its growing capabilities to create opportunities for others.
Wrapping up his remarks, Modi reiterated that India's growth does not come at the cost of others but is intended to benefit everyone. He affirmed, "The more capable and stronger India becomes, the more beneficial it will be for humanity and for the world, " underscoring India's role as a dependable partner on the international stage.
