Key Takeaways

  • India wins T20I series against Zimbabwe with a 90-run victory
  • Victory restores confidence after recent losses to Ireland and England
  • Tilak Varma shines with bat and ball, scoring 60 runs
  • Final match aims for a clean sweep against Zimbabwe

India's T20I series win over Zimbabwe gave team big lift after recent losses to Ireland and England . They crushed it with a 90-run victory in second T20I on Saturday, securing a 2-0 lead in three-match series at Harare Sports Club.

Vice-captain Tilak Varma was key, smashing unbeaten 60 off 29 balls and snagging 1 wicket for just 9 runs in his two overs . Reflecting on the series,Tilak said,"It’s quite bit of a relief for us. If you see,the last two series didn’t go our way. But especially way we have played the last two games was really good." His all-around performance boosted team morale.

Tilak's innings featured a crucial partnership with Ishan Kishan, who led scoring with a blistering 81 off 44 balls. After skipper Shreyas Iyer got out,Tilak noted how Kishan's aggressive style inspired him to stay on attack. "I just held my shape, and I was backing myself . I got those few good boundaries, and from there I just kept going," he said .

Shreyas Iyer's 25 runs also mattered, laying a solid base for middle order. Tilak acknowledged Iyer's contribution, saying,"Small cameo from Iyer was also important for the team. From there, I just wanted to maintain that momentum throughout the overs." The Tilak-Kishan partnership,a 94-run stand, was crucial, pushing India to strong total.

Bowling-wise, Tilak's work got support from Abhishek Sharma, who took 3 wickets for 17 runs, holding Zimbabwe to 129 . Indian bowlers showed discipline, wrapping up series with a match still left.

At 23, Tilak Varma aims to become more versatile . He's focused on his bowling, saying,"Honestly,I didn’t expect that he’ll go right from the first ball. The thing is, I’m working really hard on my bowling. If you give two overs or three overs for the team, it really helps. That’s what’s in my mind right now. Going forward,my aim is to give the team at least two or three overs because it really helps the combination." His all-rounder potential could be key for India's future.

With series win locked,Indian team eyes a clean sweep in final T20I against Zimbabwe.
