  • •Aims to enhance national security and economic resilience amid global challenges

  • •Initiative now includes Europe and Canada, highlighting international collaboration

JPMorganChase has marked the first anniversary of its ambitious $1.5 trillion Security and Resiliency Initiative (SRI) by announcing significant financial commitments aimed at bolstering critical industries. Over the past year, the firm has financed and facilitated over $230 billion in transactions and invested $5 billion in equity through its Strategic Investment Group.

The initiative, launched amid increasing geopolitical tensions and supply chain vulnerabilities, seeks to enhance national security and economic resilience. By integrating financing, investment, research, and policy expertise, JPMorganChase aims to address these global challenges. "Strong economies and national security don't happen by accident. They require investment in critical infrastructure, manufacturing, energy, defense and innovation, as well as policies that encourage growth, " stated Jamie Dimon, Chairman and CEO of JPMorganChase.

Under the leadership of Todd Combs, the Strategic Investment Group has committed half of its initial $10 billion equity allocation in companies of strategic importance. The investments span venture, growth, and later-stage companies, focusing on sectors like defense technologies, distributed battery storage, and automated manufacturing. Combs emphasized the initiative's role in supporting businesses that are vital to strengthening supply chains and economic security.

JPMorganChase's financing efforts have targeted five key areas: supply chain and advanced manufacturing, defense and aerospace, energy independence and resilience, frontier and strategic technologies, and pharma and healthtech. These efforts have supported defense technology firms, financed critical suppliers, and facilitated investments in next-generation energy solutions and critical minerals.

Jay Horine, Head of the Security and Resiliency Initiative, highlighted the initiative's achievements in its first year, noting the deployment of capital and development of insights across critical industries. "Our focus now is turning that momentum into even greater execution, " Horine said, emphasizing the importance of expanding industrial capacity and strengthening supply chains.

Global Expansion and Strategic Analysis

This year, SRI expanded beyond the United States to Europe and Canada, recognizing the cross-border nature of critical technologies and supply chains. Nearly one-third of SRI-related activities have occurred outside the U. S., underscoring the importance of international collaboration in reinforcing advanced manufacturing and strategic supply chains.

SRI employs value-chain analysis and industry engagement to identify dependencies, workforce shortages, and financing gaps. By leveraging the expertise of the Center for Geopolitics and the Industry and Policy Thematics research team, SRI directs its efforts where they can have the greatest impact. Since last October, the firm has mapped seven critical value chains, identifying opportunities for capital and partnership to bolster industrial capacity.

Policy analysis is a cornerstone of SRI's strategy, focusing on reforms that could enhance economic resilience and national security. Tim Berry, Global Head of Corporate Responsibility, noted the importance of effective policy in creating conditions for investment and growth. "Effective policy creates the conditions for investment, growth and opportunity, " Berry stated.

As SRI enters its second year, JPMorganChase plans to convert its insights into action by supporting companies that can expand critical capacity and developing structures that make strategic projects financeable. The firm will also focus on strengthening supplier and workforce ecosystems and expanding cross-border policy coordination.

Success for SRI will be measured not only by capital mobilization but also by enhanced industrial capacity and more reliable supply chains. An External Advisory Council, comprising public and private sector leaders, informs SRI's strategy and priorities, ensuring that America's economic strength and national security remain intertwined.
