JSW Infrastructure Limited snagged a key contract for container facilities at Syama Prasad Mookerjee Port Authority in Kolkata, winning a 30-year concession to develop Outer Container Terminal at Netaji Subhas Dock. news dropped Tuesday, June 9, 2026, after a tough bidding process.
This project,under a design,build,finance, operate, and transfer (DBFOT) model within Public Private Partnership (PPP) framework,aims to boost port's container handling . It rolls out in two phases, eventually creating capacity of about 0.93 million twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs). And it complements JSW's earlier Letter of Award for rebuilding and mechanizing Berths 7 and 8 at same dock,adding another 0.45 million TEUs .
With both projects done, JSW's total container handling at Kolkata Dock System hits about 1.4 million TEUs. Company stressed this expansion is driven by strong demand from Kolkata metro area, a hub of cargo. New facilities should ease current capacity strains, improve efficiency,including faster vessel turnaround .
This recent contract is JSW's second successful bid at Syama Prasad Mookerjee Port Authority in under a year,cementing its status as a big player in India's port privatization. Company expects that,once all container growth projects wrap up, its total handling capacity will climb to around 1.8 million TEUs.
