Kathy Griffin opened up about a sour run-in with Dave Grohl, Foo Fighters' frontman, after her infamous 2017 Trump photoshoot fiasco. On her YouTube series, Talk Your Head Off, she talked about feeling snubbed by Grohl at JFK Airport.
At 65, Griffin said she saw Grohl at a newsstand but held back . Celebs had been keeping their distance since that scandal . "I spotted [Grohl] at JFK,at the newsstand," she said. "Didn't want to start a chat because I'm used to celebs dodging me now — and telling me so."
She felt a chill from Grohl despite their past friendship. "Then Dave acted like he didn't know me. Maybe he didn't see me, because I'm so hard to miss at a newsstand," she joked,recalling the awkward vibe.
Griffin thought about approaching Grohl but decided against it. Trump-head photo fallout made her wary. "I thought, should I go up to him? But no, if it's about the Trump thing,it'll just be weird," she said. She labeled Grohl a 'former friend' but still praised his talent.
That photoshoot with a fake Trump head? It blew up. Griffin lost gigs,like her CNN New Year's Eve spot with Anderson Cooper . The Secret Service probed her,and she got slammed with public outrage and threats.
Cooper distanced himself,saying,"I am appalled by the photo shoot Kathy Griffin took part in . It is clearly disgusting and completely inappropriate." Griffin, unfazed, told Aussie TV in August 2017,"Stop acting like my little picture is more important than talking about the actual atrocities that president of the United States is committing."
Later,on Skavlan,she said, "I take that apology back by the way. I take it back big time." Griffin's words show her ongoing battle with the fallout and shifting industry ties.
