In a stunning show of skill, American shooter Kimberly Rhode grabbed her 27th title at ISSF World Cup in Hangzhou,beating teammate Samantha Simonton in the women's skeet final. Rhode,a three-time Olympic champ,led all the way,scoring 34 to Simonton's 32. It's her 41st World Cup medal.
At 47,Rhode defies expectations in a sport demanding precision . Reflecting on victory,she said,"I guess [this medal is] the same as all the others. It’s not something we keep track of. But it’s amazing to be out there with so many talented athletes, and I think each year we see that bar rising and each of us pushing one another."
Simonton showed talent but fell short in the final. Bronze went to Che Yufei of China with 28 hits,her second World Cup medal. Che was pleased with her performance, acknowledging strong rivals.
In women’s 50-meter rifle three positions,Seonaid McIntosh from Britain edged out China’s Han Jiayu by just 0.3 points. McIntosh ended with 362.6 points, overtaking Han’s lead with a strong standing finish. Norway's Jeanette Hegg Duestad took bronze with 347.6 points; China’s Zhang Liyuan finished fourth.
Men’s skeet saw Rashid Saleh Al-Athba of Qatar hit 35 targets, matching world record. Al-Athba missed only once, beating Spain’s Jose Maria Mielgo Moneo by one target. Peruvian Nicolas Pacheco Espinosa was fourth.
