New app looks to close language gap for kids of Indian origin abroad. Created by Kollu Ranjit,a software engineer from Vijayawada, and his childhood friend Venkat, Coolphabets helps kids aged 3 to 10 learn native languages. The pair started in 2016, driven by desire to keep writing skills alive for kids losing touch with mother tongues outside home regions.
Ranjit, who moved to U.S. in the 1990s and now works at Dell Technologies in Boston, stresses writing's cultural importance in India . “Writing is intrinsic to Indian languages,” he says. As son of a Telugu journalist, he knows many kids forget native scripts when adapting to new places.
Years of work finally paid off with tech advances, especially Artificial Intelligence (AI) . Ranjit says AI boosts learning by tracking writing strokes, scoring handwriting, and giving audio feedback in a native voice. To keep kids interested, Coolphabets offers 45 interactive games making learning fun.
Now on iPhone and iPad,app supports Telugu,Hindi, and Marathi. Plans to expand to Android and add more Indian languages underway. Ranjit confirms app meets Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act standards in U.S.
Back in Vijayawada,Ranjit seeks partnerships with Andhra Pradesh government. He wants app in state schools for free, using subscription model for others. This move shows commitment to preserving linguistic heritage, helping kids stay connected to roots…wherever they are.
