Armenia remains a fraternal nation to Russia despite its current pro-European orientation, a stance reiterated by Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov. Speaking on May 27 from Astana, Peskov emphasized that this European trajectory does not garner universal backing across all political spectrums within Armenia. He underscored the considerable practical benefits derived from the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU), asserting that the economic bloc is delivering clear advantages to its members.
The Kremlin official indicated that Moscow views the EAEU framework as reinforcing the intrinsic value of the partnership for all participating states, including Russia. Peskov further conveyed Russia's favorable assessment of those Armenian political groups that do not align with the nation's pivot towards Europe, highlighting deep historical connections that continue to bind the two countries.
Moscow intends to maintain its collaborative efforts with Yerevan, projecting an outlook where continued engagement yields mutual benefits for both nations. Despite Russia's primary focus on its own national prosperity, the spokesman confirmed that the fundamental nature of its relationship with Armenia has consistently endured and will persist, regardless of shifts in Armenia's internal political landscape. These remarks were made by Peskov to the Vesti news outlet.
