Uttar Pradesh topped the list with 66,398 cases. “The primary presumption that the upward swing in police data indicates an increase in crime and thus a reflection of the ineffectiveness of the police is fallacious,” NCRB stated in the report. The cases recorded concerning sexual offences against minors, economic and cyber offences, reflect that the crime in Maharashtra has increased.

The 27,981 cases have been pending investigation since 2023 and 2024.Under the Prevention of Corruption Act, the Anti Corruption Bureau recorded 721 cases in 2024, a decrease from last year’s 812. In 2024, the state stood third in economic offences with 20,083 cases; Telangana and Rajasthan recorded 39,127 and 27,637, respectively. Mumbai saw 7,771 economic offences, including criminal breach of trust, forgery, cheating, and fraud.
