  • Pending registrations can be extended by Waqf Tribunals or courts
  • Waqf properties cover over 3.8 million acres across India

The Indian government has validated over 617,000 Waqf properties on UMEED Central Portal-2025, according to statement made by Ministry of Minority Affairs in the Lok Sabha on Wednesday. This initiative is part of broader effort to digitize and streamline records of Waqf properties across the country.

Minority Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju responded to question from All India Trinamool Congress MP Sajda Ahmed, revealing that as of July 17,2026,a total of 799,978 Waqf properties had been initiated for uploading onto the portal. Of these,617,102 properties have successfully passed validation and approval, while 91,623 properties are still undergoing uploading process. Additionally,91,253 properties were rejected during verification.

The UMEED Central Portal-2025 was established under the UMEED Act of 1995,designed to oversee the entire lifecycle of Waqf properties. This includes processes such as registration, verification, and annual audits. The portal aims to enhance transparency and efficiency in managing Waqf assets, which total approximately 872,000 establishments across 30 states and union territories, covering over 3.8 million acres of land.

To address concerns regarding pending registrations, the government initially granted Waqf Boards six-month period to upload details of existing properties. This timeframe can be extended by an additional six months through Waqf Tribunals or courts. In a bid to facilitate the completion of this process, the Ministry has reopened the UMEED Central Portal for those state and union territory Waqf Boards that have received extensions.

Details regarding the registration status of Waqf properties are accessible on the UMEED portal, allowing for greater public transparency . The digitization of Waqf records is expected to improve the management of these properties, which play a significant role in the socio-economic landscape of India.
