Mumbai Police stopped a potential catastrophe during a Muharram procession, arresting a man handing out capsules thought to contain toxic rodenticide. The suspect, Salman,caught in Byculla,claimed they were painkillers .
Deputy Commissioner of Police,Central Zone-I,Jayant Meena, said police seized 14,900 capsules so far. investigation kicked off after Salman fell ill, vomiting and suffering stomach pain after swallowing a capsule. This led police to trace source,resulting in his arrest.
Salman admitted he aimed to cause harm during the event. Over two weeks, he filled 30,000 capsules with 50 kg of zinc phosphide in Mumbai,passing them off as pain relief meds to distribute at the event.
DCP Meena highlighted police vigilance in averting disaster. "Thanks to alert Mumbai Police, major tragedy was avoided," he said. Investigation continues,focusing on remaining capsules and chemicals used.
Salman,who runs a paint business,allegedly got chemicals through his trade,ordering capsules online. Authorities are probing his foreign travel history and possible city associates as inquiry goes on…
