The Mysore Sugar Company,commonly known as Mysugar, is set to commence its sugarcane crushing operations for the 2026-27 season on July 15 at its facility in Mandya,Karnataka. This announcement follows ceremonial lighting of factory's boiler on July 8,an event attended by various dignitaries including Deputy Commissioner Kumar and Mysugar Chairperson C. D. Gangadhar. The ignition of boiler marks the official start of preparations for upcoming crushing season,which is vital for local farmers .
A symbolic trial run was conducted by processing sugarcane through factory's ‘A’ Mill. This mill has a capacity to crush 5,000 tonnes of cane daily,and operations will begin there. Kumar assured attendees that the factory is fully prepared for the season ahead.
During the current season,Mysugar has secured agreements with farmers to procure 5.44 lakh tonnes of sugarcane . The management has set an ambitious target to complete the crushing operations by the end of November . C.D. Gangadhar noted that while the mill can handle more, the aim is to crush 3,500 tonnes of cane each day, with expected sugar recovery rate of 8.5%.
In a positive development for local farmers,all dues from the previous season have been settled. This season, Mysugar plans to expedite payments,ensuring that farmers receive their dues within 15 days of supplying sugarcane. On this occasion,the Karnataka government distributed incentive cheques of ₹50 per tonne to farmers who contributed their cane last season,further supporting the agricultural community.
Vijayalakshmi Raghunandan,Vice-Chairperson of the Karnataka State Small Industries Development Corporation, was also present at event,underscoring the importance of this initiative for the local economy. The Mysugar factory plays a crucial role in the livelihoods of many farmers in the region, and the start of the crushing season is a significant event for the agricultural sector in Mandya.
