NIS (Naftna Industrija Srbije) is pushing for an extension on its operating license from U.S. Treasury's OFAC. Current deadline is July 1. Company says it needs new special license to keep running smoothly.
Ownership shake-up at NIS due to U.S. sanctions. In January 2025,U.S. Treasury slapped NIS and majority shareholder Gazprom Neft with sanctions. Restrictions hit October 9,2025,forcing shareholders to sell off assets . Serbian government now wants to boost its stake in NIS by 5% to gain more say in decisions.
Meanwhile,MOL from Hungary is talking with UAE's ADNOC about a possible minority stake in NIS. Back in January,Gazprom and MOL signed a memorandum of understanding on selling a stake in Serbian oil company. Serbian government eager to wrap up MOL's purchase of Russian stake. President Aleksandar Vucic says this should be final round of talks.
OFAC previously gave NIS an extension, but it runs out July 1. The clock's ticking, pressure mounting for quick answers to ownership and operation hurdles.
With deadline looming,NIS's future hangs in balance. Can they secure that new license,or will negotiations leave them in limbo…
