Renowned poet P. Narayana Kurup died Saturday at 92,leaving a rich legacy in Malayalam literature. Living in Peroorkada,Thiruvananthapuram,he was awarded Padma Shri in 2022 for his contributions to poetry and literary criticism.
1934 in Harippad — Kurup began as a teacher in 1956. Over 40 works to his name,including poetry collections like Asthramalyam, Hamsadhwani,Nishagandhi. Critical works,translations too. In the 1970s,he joined State Institute of Languages, enriching cultural scene.
Accolades followed: Kerala Sahithya Akademi Award, Odakkuzhal Award,Kerala Panini Award. Influence beyond poetry — vice-president of Sanskar Bharati in Agra.
Survived by wife Vijayalakshmi, children including Vivek Narayan,Managing Editor of Network18. Governor Rajendra Arlekar called him "rare genius" in tribute. Chief Minister V.D .
