On June 21,2026,Prime Minister Narendra Modi said yoga has turned into world's largest community celebration, bringing together people from different cultures and nations. At the 12th International Day of Yoga in Kolkata, he pointed out this date — longest day of the year — now globally marked for yoga.
Modi congratulated people worldwide, stating, "June 21,which marks longest day on Earth, has now become the largest community celebration day because of yoga. Yoga brings people together." He noted yoga's many benefits, from boosting physical health to nurturing inner peace. Enhancing life in every way.
This year's theme, "Yoga for Healthy Ageing," was key in his speech. Modi said age-old practice is crucial for physical health, mental well-being, and active ageing. "Yoga is not just physical exercise. It is not restricted to any age group . It is expression of the human spirit," he said, urging daily integration, not just for special days .
He also urged people to ensure potential remains as they age. "When we speak of yoga for healthy ageing,we can work to ensure that age does not reduce human potential," he said . Modi set bold health goals: "Our target is to be more flexible at 40 than we were at 20. We aim to be more energetic at 50 than we were at 30."
Besides yoga celebrations, Modi praised Kolkata residents for their dedication to 'Swachhata Se Swagat,' promoting community cleanliness and hygiene. But will these goals stick?…
