Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Droupadi Murmu visited tribal village Pahadpur in Odisha Saturday,engaging with local customs and kicking off several development projects. They broke from duties in New Delhi,welcomed by vibrant tribal dances and traditional attire. Pahadpur is President Murmu’s in-laws’ home.
Murmu arrived early, overseeing preparations,showing her deep ties to the village. Walking with Modi,she shared insights about Pahadpur's cultural roots and the sacred Jahera site,cherished by the Santhal community. Modi also wished Murmu a happy 68th birthday, noting her dedication to public service and marginalized communities.
Modi announced plans to make Pahadpur a “solar village” with solar panels in every home. He met students at a skill center set up after Murmu became first tribal woman President in 2022. The Prime Minister was grateful for visiting the place where Murmu has done so much for the community.
In Dandbose, Rairangpur, both leaders launched projects totaling over ₹47,000 crore. This includes a ₹25,016 crore coal gasification unit,₹6,000 crore in power projects,₹700 crore for railways. Modi stressed the government's focus on developing eastern India, contrasting with past Congress neglect.
“Odisha has ₹20 lakh crore in investment proposals, with ₹3.5 lakh crore in progress,” Modi said. He pointed to the double-engine government model reaching grassroots. Tribal communities are starting to overcome historical challenges,joining the wider economic fold.
Chief Minister Mohan Majhi also spoke,reflecting on his government’s achievements over two years. He noted ongoing initiatives’ role in changing lives in Odisha.
Murmu praised Modi’s commitment to visiting Pahadpur,despite his recent travels abroad . She felt proud of the Prime Minister’s engagement with such a remote village, reinforcing importance of local traditions and governance.
