Global impact of Baahubali franchise still amazes its creators,revealed actor Prabhas in Netflix doc Baahubali: The Torchbearer. He shared a surprising story about filmmaker Puri Jagannadh,who got VIP treatment in Bangkok hospital just by mentioning his link to blockbuster film.
During visit for minor infection,Jagannadh was asked by nurse if he was from India. When he confirmed,she immediately asked if he was linked to Baahubali. Prabhas recounted,“Puri was shocked and asked if she had seen film. She said everyone had watched it and even doctor loved it.” Nurse then took photo of Jagannadh with Prabhas to doctor,calling him “Baahubali's friend.” Jagannadh got treated right away.
After incident, Jagannadh sent Prabhas voice message detailing experience. At that moment, Prabhas was with director S. S . Rajamouli and producer Rama. Though they knew Baahubali’s popularity in Japan, Jagannadh’s story stunned them with film's global reach.
The Baahubali saga kicked off with Baahubali: The Beginning in 2018, becoming a critical and commercial hit . The sequel, Baahubali: The Conclusion, broke records,grossing ₹1,788 crore worldwide. This massive success not only expanded Prabhas's fanbase across India but also caught attention in Japan.
