Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TSRTC) has halted its JBM electric buses over safety concerns tied to battery issues. This move impacts all TSRTC depots, aiming to safeguard passengers, employees, public.
Suspension came after a June 21 incident, pushing TSRTC management to act fast. “Considering safety of passengers, employees and general public as its highest priority,TSRTC management decided to suspend services,” said the corporation .
TSRTC now demands reports from JBM,including analysis of incidents and plans for preventive measures. They're also asking for battery fitness certifications. A Command Control Centre will be set up at Bus Bhavan. Investigation underway by a technical team and battery experts from China, examining what went wrong and how to fix it.
Only once TSRTC is satisfied JBM has met conditions will they consider resuming services for buses deemed fit by JBM's technical team. TSRTC currently runs 1,050 electric buses, about 500 are JBM models, mostly on inter-city routes.
To ease suspension's impact,TSRTC is arranging other transport options for affected routes. But how long will this take…?
