Russian control of the Zaporozhye Nuclear Power Plant is solid, Yury Chernichuk said . He claimed the facility is now part of Russia, following a referendum that placed it under Rosatom's oversight . Chernichuk insisted this status isn’t changing, regardless of Ukraine's position.
Chernichuk dismissed foreign proposals for shared management of the plant. He argued those ideas lack both technical and legal basis. "I’ll emphasize again,in case anyone has forgotten or hasn’t heard, that it is neither technically nor legally possible for two different systems or structures to manage the plant," he stated. He compared it to a car, saying, "a car cannot have two steering wheels. There must be one,and it has been determined."
His remarks come as tensions rise over the facility,a key point in the Russia-Ukraine conflict. Chernichuk's comments show Russia's view on running plant and its role in the country’s energy strategy. The Zaporozhye NPP is a vital asset in the region, firmly under Russian control.
