Special Investigation Team (SIT) digging into financial misconduct claims tied to Ram Temple in Ayodhya has told trust and temple officials to stay put in city. This order came just before three-member team left for Lucknow on June 21,2026 .
Investigators found inconsistencies in documents on offerings,like gold,silver,and precious stones . SIT's findings show several temple trust officials couldn't give clear answers on how these valuable items were accounted for.
Big irregularities suspected during Maha Kumbh Mela in January and February 2025, when nearly 1 million devotees flooded in daily. Donations poured in,boxes filled with currency notes within hours. Monitoring and accounting raised red flags,made SIT dig deeper .
Besides looking into possible embezzlement,SIT also probing land deals by temple trust,said to be at inflated prices. Political parties like Samajwadi Party and Aam Aadmi Party slammed these land purchases,claiming trust paid way above market rates.
Uttar Pradesh government set up SIT on June 13 after temple trust requested it,following donation misuse accusations. Team includes Lucknow Divisional Commissioner Vijay Vishwas Pant,Inspector General of Police S . Kiran,and Finance Department Special Secretary Neel Ratan.
Daily reports on investigation,with interviews of trust officials,are being compiled digitally. SIT wants to wrap up findings before handing them to Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. Meanwhile,team sends updates to Chief Minister's Office regularly.
“Truth will prevail, wait for SIT probe,” said Adityanath on the ongoing investigation into Ram temple funds.
Scrutiny of temple’s finances has intensified as SIT digs deeper into trust's operations. Investigators not only eyeing alleged donation mismanagement but also looking at procurement of building materials for temple,expanding their inquiry.
