Independence Day celebrations in schools across Noida and Ghaziabad this year transcended traditional flag-hoisting and performances, as educators emphasized civic responsibility and empathy. Schools seized opportunity to instill in students a deeper understanding of patriotism,highlighting that love for the country encompasses respect for others and care for public spaces.
At Prometheus School in Noida,principal Mukesh Sharma articulated the significance of the day, stating, “Independence Day is a reminder that freedom comes with responsibility.” He explained that contributing to the nation does not solely hinge on grand gestures; rather, it includes acts of compassion and adherence to civic duties .
Similarly, Ritu Srivastava,principal of Sri Chaitanya Techno School,echoed this sentiment, asserting that the foundation of responsible citizenship lies in values. “Loving your country is not limited to respecting its flag or national symbols; it also means caring for public spaces and understanding that public property belongs to all of us,” she remarked. The aim, she noted, is for students to cultivate civic awareness and recognize that responsible citizenship is vital for meaningful contributions to nation.
Many schools organized special assemblies where students engaged in discussions about the freedom movement,the contributions of freedom fighters,and the significance of Independence Day. Performances included dance, music,and theatrical presentations that celebrated patriotism and India’s journey since gaining independence.
In Ghaziabad,the festivities included a performance by students from Sushila Balika Inter College, who presented the National Song,Vande Mataram, at the collectorate. Students from KDB School contributed with patriotic songs,while children from Guru Nanak School showcased their talents with a band . Notably,students from Neev Shakti Sanstha, which includes hearing- and speech-impaired and differently-abled children,also delivered a stirring patriotic performance .
The district-level celebrations saw participation from various schools, along with NCC cadets and members of Scouts and Guides. Students who excelled in competitions held in conjunction with Independence Day events received certificates and awards,further encouraging a spirit of achievement and community involvement.
