Tamil Nadu government set to speed up clean energy shift with strategy pulling in all key players,C.T.R. Nirmalkumar announced. At Silver Jubilee Edition of CII’s Green Power Conference in Chennai Tuesday, he laid out renewable energy plans — rooftop solar,solar pumps among them .
State pushes ahead with pumped hydro,battery storage projects for better renewable utilization. Nirmalkumar talked up Tamil Nadu's edge in offshore wind,green hydrogen,given state's resources,strong port infrastructure. “We aim to build supportive ecosystem for large-scale renewable energy,” he said.
With Tamil Nadu’s IT,AI advantage,Nirmalkumar urged top firms to set up data centers here. Plans to power these facilities with renewables were outlined.
“Renewable sector's key to job creation for state’s youth,” he noted. Called for teamwork with industry,academia,training centers to skill young professionals.
Nirmalkumar stressed renewables as essential for Tamil Nadu’s growth,sustainability,energy security. State leads India’s clean energy sector with its abundant wind,solar. Tamil Nadu has about 48 GW installed power capacity, ~32 GW from non-fossil sources like solar,wind,hydro,biomass,nuclear. Non-fossil sources now 66% of state’s power capacity.
Longtime wind energy leader,Tamil Nadu tops in wind turbine manufacturing, deployment,with over 12 GW installed. Nirmalkumar welcomed feedback on improving projects,developing infrastructure,modernizing old wind assets.
Minister sees need for integrated renewable ecosystem. Solar,wind,pumped hydro,battery storage,green hydrogen,electric mobility,smart grids — all part of mix. Could draw investments,making Tamil Nadu global hub for manufacturing,innovation.
