Eight workers died,six others injured in tragic mishap at Visakhapatnam Steel Plant in Andhra Pradesh Monday. Molten steel leaked from SMS-2 and STC-3 heat facility,forcing swift action from local authorities,central government.
In disaster's wake, Andhra Pradesh's Minister of State for Steel, Bhupathiraju Srinivasa Varma, set up a three-member expert committee to probe incident. They're expected to suggest ways to prevent future mishaps . Varma noted two injured remain critical; compensation plans for victims' families underway.
“We have already appointed a three-member expert committee . This morning they will come and start their work,”Varma said at accident site. Compensation for permanent workers pegged at ₹1.7 crores,while temporary ones get ₹40-45 lakhs. Decisions on this soon.
After incident, Union Minister HD Kumaraswamy visited site with Andhra Pradesh Home Minister Vangalapudi Anitha and MP Sribharat. Kumaraswamy announced ₹25 lakhs ex-gratia for deceased families,₹10 lakhs per injured worker. “My heartfelt prayer to God to give strength to their family members who have succumbed to this injury,” he said.
Kumaraswamy also promised victims' families could stay in quarters until deceased workers' notional retirement age. Financial aid for kids' education also assured. PM Narendra Modi offered condolences,announced extra aid from Prime Minister's National Relief Fund: ₹2 lakhs for each deceased's kin,₹50,000 for injured .
