Bribery allegations have rocked Tamil Nadu,leading to arrest of three people over claims of a hefty cash offer . This all started after a Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly member reported being approached to vote against ruling party's stance on a key resolution about Assembly Speaker.
The complaint described a meeting with Thirunavukkarasu, who said he was with group called Indian Political Democratic Strategies. It was suggested he acted for bigwigs in a major political party,hinting at a resolution targeting Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly Speaker.
Though tied to ruling party,the assembly member claimed he was asked to vote against it. Thirunavukkarasu allegedly offered up to Rs 35 crore for his vote. After turning it down,member reported threats from caller,warning of harm to him and his family if he spoke out.
Ongoing police probe has reportedly dragged in ex-DMK minister V Senthil Balaji and his brother,V Ashok Kumar. Officials noted V Ashok Kumar had met a man named Naresh in Chennai,and confirmed Thirunavukkarasu contacted the member on Senthil Balaji and his brother's orders.
Reacting to allegations,Tamil Nadu minister P Nirmal Kumar accused DMK of trying to lure MLAs from ruling alliance last 40 days. He claimed DMK allies threatened an MLA, supposedly with Senthil Balaji’s and his brother's involvement . “DMK and its leaders have been trying to poach our MLAs,” Nirmal Kumar said. “Upon refusal,he was reportedly threatened by DMK associates. He filed a complaint with evidence,leading to police arresting three linked to Senthil Balaji.”
This scandal breaks just months before 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections. The TVK party made big gains in its debut election,securing 108 seats and shaking up DMK and AIADMK's long-standing dominance.
