The results of National Entrance-cum-Eligibility Test (NEET) 2026 have revealed that twelve students from Tamil Nadu achieved scores exceeding 390,with the National Testing Authority (NTA) announcing the results late last night on July 16, 2026. This year’s examination faced significant disruption; the original test, conducted on May 3, was canceled due to a paper leak, necessitating a re-examination on June 21.
Leading the Tamil Nadu candidates,Venkatapathi Velayutham V.A. secured the 12th position in the all-India rankings, achieving an impressive percentile of 99.99915. Other notable performers from state include Srinika V. at rank 27,Sudar A.M. at rank 45, and Vanisha Satish at rank 51 . The list continues with Sabaree G.N. (rank 59), R. Jaikrishna (rank 75),Samvitha P. (rank 82),Navithana V. (rank 88),Nikhil Sivananthan S. (rank 92), Janani Swethaa D.R. (rank 112),Rohith Mathew Rabindrarajan E. (rank 115), and J. Jayakrishna (rank 134). Among these students, four belong to the Other Backward Classes – Non-Creamy Layer (OBC-NCL) category.
This year’s NEET results also indicate a notable rise in cut-off marks, increasing by approximately 30 to 35 points compared to the previous year. Ashwin Ramaswamy, an independent career counselor, attributed this surge to a higher number of students achieving better scores. He noted that while only 73 candidates scored above 650 marks last year, this year saw a dramatic increase to 1,390 students reaching that benchmark.
The overall increase in students scoring above 600 marks is particularly striking. In 2025,1,332 students surpassed this threshold, while this year, the number skyrocketed to 9,815 . Ramaswamy suggested that this trend would likely reflect in Tamil Nadu’s results, predicting that around 76 students from the state would score above 650, with over 800 expected to score above 600.
In response to the growing demand for medical education,Tamil Nadu will add 950 MBBS seats for the 2026-27 academic year, as per the National Medical Commission’s (NMC) recently released seat matrix. This expansion will bring total number of MBBS seats across 78 colleges in the state to 13,999. However, the Tamil Nadu Medical Selection authorities have yet to announce the counseling schedule. Prospective students can submit their applications for MBBS and BDS courses through official portal at www.tnmedicalselection.net.
