UNSW Sydney opens Bengaluru campus to enhance job skills and employability

Key Takeaways

  • UNSW launches Bengaluru campus to enhance job readiness among graduates
  • Focus on bridging skills gap in India and Australia
  • Limited enrollment ensures personalized attention for students
  • University aims to empower students for an AI-driven job market

University of New South Wales (UNSW) just cut ribbon on its new Bengaluru campus at Manyata Tech Park. Goal: make grads job-ready. Vice-Chancellor Attila Brungs stressed bridging India-Australia skills gap at Thursday's launch.

Brungs laid out a plan to weave industry engagement into courses. "AI tech challenges universities in both India and Australia. So, our curriculum teaches with AI tools to build job skills," he said . UNSW tops Australia's employability charts — 90% of grads land jobs fast.

In Bengaluru, success means capping enrolment at 30 students per program for focused learning and industry insight. Right now, 91 students are in four programs: Bachelor of Business, Bachelor of Science in Computer Science,Bachelor of Data Science and Decisions, and Masters in Cyber Security.

Brungs emphasized balancing human skills with AI smarts. Some tests will make students think critically without AI; others will need AI use to prep them for real-world jobs. It's a dual strategy to arm them for AI-heavy careers .

Bengaluru was strategic pick for the campus. Brungs called it India's "start-up heart," saying UNSW has birthed more start-ups than any Aussie university. The city's need for skilled workers offers UNSW a chance to boost local education.

Other foreign schools like University of Liverpool and University of Lancaster are eyeing Bengaluru too,but Brungs stays positive. Many locals are educated, yet lack quality higher ed access. "Many smart, ambitious students here can't get quality education," he noted.

UNSW plans scholarships and programs to open doors for deserving students. Brungs vowed support for aspiring youth, highlighting UNSW's role in nurturing talent and innovation.

As Bengaluru campus gears up, focus is on a curriculum that matches job market needs and empowers future leaders. With industry ties and skill-building in mind,UNSW aims to set new higher ed benchmarks in India.
