G. Viswanathan, founder and Chancellor of VIT, spoke on education's power to lift economies at alumni reunion for 2001 B.E. and B.Tech grads . On campus,he called education a key driver of change,transforming developing nations into developed ones .
"No nation can progress without education," he said,highlighting initiatives like VIT's STARS (Support The Advancement of Rural Students),offering free education to deserving students from government schools. Viswanathan also noted Indian diaspora sends ₹12 lakh crore home annually,boosting the economy.
He urged alumni to back educational initiatives,especially those providing free education for underprivileged students. "The culture of contributing to education should be encouraged," he added . In support,2001 alumni donated ₹11 lakh to STARS during reunion.
