The city of Visakhapatnam is set to host the BRICS Sports Ministers’ Meeting on August 22 and 23,2026, with preparations underway to ensure a successful event. District Collector Abhishikth Kishore convened a meeting with officials to discuss security and protocol arrangements,emphasizing the need for well-organized international gathering .
The meeting,organized by the Union Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, will take place at the Novotel hotel. Officials expect participation from ministers and representatives of 11 countries,including Brazil,Russia,India,China,South Africa,Egypt,Ethiopia, Indonesia, Iran,Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates. Delegates are scheduled to arrive in the city on August 21 and 22,departing on August 24.
Key topics at meeting will include enhancing cooperation among BRICS nations in sports development, technology, and the sports industry. The agenda also aims to promote and preserve traditional and indigenous sports, reflecting diverse cultures represented within the group .
Approximately 50 to 70 dignitaries are expected to attend,including the Union Sports Minister and various sports ministers from member countries. The event will also see participation from local leaders,with Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan, and Education Minister N . Lokesh likely to be present at the inaugural and other programs.
Collector Kishore instructed officials to finalize accommodation arrangements at the Radisson Blu and Novotel hotels. He stressed the importance of coordinating with authorities in Vizianagaram district for transportation and reception at the airport . Security measures will be a priority, with local police department tasked with ensuring safe environment for all attendees.
The Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation will oversee sanitation efforts, while the Tourism Department is responsible for organizing cultural programs to showcase the region's heritage. A gala dinner is planned for evening of August 22 at the Novotel,providing an opportunity for networking among the delegates.
On August 23, delegates will participate in cycle rally at Rama Krishna Beach,visit the glass bridge at Kailasagiri, and engage in a tree-plantation initiative. Additional activities will include programs at Thotlakonda and Rushikonda beaches. The Sports Working Group meeting will occur in the morning at the Novotel,setting the stage for discussions on collaborative efforts in sports.
Collector Kishore has emphasized the need for all departments,including Revenue, Police, GVMC,Tourism, SETVIS, Sports,and Forest, to work in unison to ensure that arrangements are completed according to a detailed schedule . The collaborative effort aims to not only facilitate the meeting but also to leave a positive impression on international delegates.
