With Amarnath Yatra kicking off July 3,45 mountain rescue teams are being stationed at 21 spots along the tough pilgrimage routes. This comes after a deadly attack in April 2025 in Pahalgam, where 26 civilians died. Aim is to boost safety for thousands of devotees expected.
Jammu & Kashmir's top cop,Nalin Prabhat, stressed these teams' importance. They're armed with advanced rescue and emergency tools . Main job: help pilgrims,tackle emergencies like accidents and bad weather. “These teams are strategically placed for quick response,” Prabhat said,noting it's first time such trained personnel are dedicated to yatra.
Safety concerns rise with natural threats like cloudbursts,landslides. Abdul Gani Mir of the State Disaster Response Force talked up these teams' crucial role in crises. He cited May's successful rescue of 300 tourists after a gondola issue in Gulmarg as proof of SDRF's readiness.
Mir said, “Pilgrim safety is top priority,” adding yatra is more than a pilgrimage — it's deep devotion driving many through tough terrains to sacred cave shrine. Coordinated security efforts aim to strengthen safety nets.
