Gandhinagar is on high alert as India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a ‘Red Alert’ for 13 districts in Gujarat due to forecasts of heavy to extremely heavy rainfall. In response to this severe weather warning, the state has deployed 50 specialized disaster response teams,comprising 17 from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and 33 from State Disaster Response Force (SDRF).
Relief Commissioner Gaurang Makwana announced that extensive preparedness measures have been activated across the state. He emphasized need for all relevant departments and district administrations to maintain vigilance and ensure emergency arrangements are in place to tackle any unforeseen circumstances. The districts under the ‘Red Alert’ include areas that have already experienced significant rainfall since early Friday,such as Narmada,Anand, Kheda, Chhota Udepur,Vadodara,and Surat.
Under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel and Deputy Chief Minister Harsh Sanghavi, the state is implementing relief, rescue, and precautionary measures. Evacuations from flood-prone and low-lying areas have commenced and will continue as necessary . The district administration in Vadodara has completed mapping available rescue boats and their operators to ensure swift action can be taken if needed.
Makwana warned that the active weather system is expected to bring continued heavy rainfall across various parts of Gujarat in the coming days . Consequently,all district administrations have been instructed to remain on constant alert, closely monitor local conditions,and take timely action as required.
He urged public to stay indoors unless facing a medical emergency or other essential needs . “Citizens should not step out of their homes except for medical emergencies or extremely essential work,” Makwana stated. He also advised residents to avoid rumors,stay away from rivers and waterlogged areas,and adhere strictly to official advisories issued by the state government and district administrations.
In addition to the deployment of disaster response teams,the state has taken proactive steps to ensure safety and well-being of its residents.
