Government has sanctioned ₹93.89 crore for land acquisition tied to Thammanam-Pulleppady Road project,announced P.K . Basheer,Minister for Public Works. This is on top of ₹100 crore already approved for initiative,which is gearing up to publish land acquisition notifications .
Basheer also disclosed detailed project report (DPR) is in works for proposed 49.50-km Ernakulam Bypass,linking Angamaly and Aroor on national highway. NHAI is actively involved. Total estimated cost: ₹13,553.5 crore,with ₹6,183.4 crore for land and ₹6,551.1 crore for construction.
NHAI traffic studies suggest new bypass will draw heavy vehicle flow,relieving congestion on Angamaly-Edappally stretch of NH-544. Government has greenlit bypass alignment,aiming to ease current traffic issues worsened by narrow Marthandavarma Bridge on route. Existing NH-544 is four-lane,but further widening blocked by urban sprawl.
Basheer plans discussion with Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways on July 7 . Land acquisition may start post-DPR approval from Ministry.
