In an extraordinary blend of art and science, micro sculptor Ajay Kumar Mattewada from Warangal,India, will see his detailed sculptures of legendary Indian scientists launched into space on Vikram-1 rocket. Scheduled for liftoff between July 12 and August 4,this mission marks a big moment for Indian micro sculpture and space art.

Mattewada crafted tiny figures of C. V. Raman, Vikram Sarabhai, and A. P. J. Abdul Kalam, so small they need microscope to be seen. Each piece is about 800 microns tall. He spent countless hours, often late at night, on this project, done at Skyroot Aerospace's request.

Using space-friendly materials like stainless steel,24-karat gold, silver, ceramic powder, and carbon fiber, Mattewada made these delicate sculptures with incredible precision. Once finished, they were placed inside a tiny rocket model made of 18-karat gold, built to withstand space travel.

About six weeks ago,Mattewada gave the sculptures to Skyroot Aerospace. They went through rigorous tests for vibration, heat, and other space conditions, ensuring they could survive the harsh environment. After passing these tests, the sculptures were placed in a special protective payload casing.

Mattewada feels immense pride in his work, seeing it as unique position for Indian micro sculpture in space art history. He compared it to famous space artworks like the Moon Museum and Fallen Astronaut, saying his creations will join this esteemed legacy.

“This mission is also a tribute to three generations of visionary scientific leadership that helped shape modern India,”
he said, reflecting on importance of his work. For Mattewada, it's not just a personal success but recognition for the art form he's dedicated 40 years to .

His excitement is clear as he awaits the launch . “Knowing that my creations will become a part of the history of space exploration fills me with indescribable joy, pride, and satisfaction,” he added. The collaboration with Skyroot Aerospace has realized his artistic vision.

The Vikram-1 mission, aimed at boosting India's space capabilities, is set to elevate the country's global aerospace standing. As launch day nears, excitement builds around this unique mix of art and science.
