Mumbai, July 7 — Former beauty queen and veteran actress Nafisa Ali just hit 50 years since she took home the Miss India 1976 crown . Looking back,she remembered her time at Miss International 1976 in Tokyo,where she snagged second runner-up.

The 69-year-old,who’s faced down stage 3 peritoneal and ovarian cancer since 2018,shared some old sepia-toned photos from her pageant days. Her caption: “50 years ago I was crowned ‘Miss India’ 1976 & went on to be 2nd runner up in ‘Miss International 1976 held in Tokyo.”

Nafisa hit the big screen in 1979, starring in Shyam Benegal’s Junoon with Shashi Kapoor. Over the years, she’s been in a slew of films,like Major Saab with Amitabh Bachchan, Bewafaa, Life In A... Metro, Guzaarish, and Yamla Pagla Deewana. She also left her mark in Malayalam film Big B, acting with Mammootty.

Besides acting,she tried her hand at politics,going for a seat in the Lok Sabha from South Kolkata in 2004,but didn’t win. Her latest film was Uunchai in 2022,directed by Sooraj Barjatya,with star-studded cast including Bachchan,Anupam Kher,Boman Irani, Parineeti Chopra, Neena Gupta, Sarika, and Danny Denzongpa.

Just last month,she shared her thrill of trekking at 11,000 feet near Rohtang Pass. She said it was rejuvenating,especially after surgery and chemo . Sharing videos and pics,she said, “Trekking at 11,000 feet for super picnic with friends and family. See me being helped by my son-in-law and grandson helping me down track. It made me feel brand new after surgery and my many chemos.”

She wrapped up with a happy note,calling it “super fun day at 11,000 feet - Rohtang Pass side - with friends and family.” Her resilience and spirit keep inspiring many…
